Lot 762
1916-D Mercury Dime. MS-60+. Full Bands. The key date to the series, but we note that the surfaces are slightly washed out, probably from a few too many past dippings. A coin that would look great in an uncirculated album set, especially once it starts to tone back with some golden hues. Highly desirable in any grade, this mint state coin shows good separation on the bands.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500.

Lot 763
1916-D Mercury Dime. PCGS graded AU-55 Premium Quality. This one is well struck for the date, and still has full bands on the reverse, despite a few points of wear. Satiny gold in color, with good luster in the fields, and no handling marks worthy of note. In 1916, Denver produced a scant 264,000 of these, precious few when compared with other dates boasting mintages of 10 million or more, and thus, 1916-D remains the key date of the series.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

1918-D Mercury Dime. PCGS graded MS-64 Full Bands. A rare date to find with full bands, in fact PCGS has graded just 58 this high with 15 graded a notch higher, and none above that. This one has glorious multicolored toning on both sides, with deeper gold and green hues around the periphery, and satiny silver at the centers. Check this one out.

Lot 772
1919-S Mercury Dime. MS-63 Full Bands. This is a beautiful and rare mint error. The obverse is bright white, with full luster and just traces of hairlines, while the reverse is similar but has a couple of long shallow scrapes, the primary one through ICA and above DIME. As the coin was struck off center and out of the collar, the strike is very sharp, but the coin appears to be slightly out of round, as the planchet expanded during the strike unevenly. Further, the edge is partially reeded, perhaps 10 to 20 percent of the rim near the obverse side shows crisp reeding, while the balance of the edge is rounded. The scrape on the reverse may be part of the ejection process, and many off center coins have scratches of some sort or another. An exciting coin for the specialist to enjoy for many years.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.

Lot 776
1921 Mercury Dime. NGC graded MS-65 Full Bands. The United States economy went into a tailspin in 1920, because of the retooling from a war economy to a peace economy. Demand for products fell, and fewer transactions were undertaken. Hence, demand for coinage dropped, and only 1,230,000 dimes were produced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1921, one of the lowest mintages in years. Hoarders could scarcely locate rolls of these, as what few were produced entered circulation. Here is one that survived in gem condition, with a strong strike on the central reverse bands. NGC has graded 39 this high, with 13 graded higher, making this well up in the top 100 known. Frosty and bright, with no toning and no marks worthy of note. Struck from a cracked obverse die, with a fine crack just to the right of the R of LIBERTY, and a die line extending down from the back of Liberty's head.
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,800.

Lot 778
1921-D Mercury Dime. NGC graded MS-66 Full Bands. One of the finest graded by NGC, they report 8 seen this high with a single coin graded higher. Similar at PCGS, they have graded 16 as MS-66 FB, but none higher. This particular specimen has blazing luster and is generally well struck. We note minor weakness near the rim above the B of LIBERTY and at the corresponding portion of the reverse. Toned a light gold on the obverse, the reverse is mostly white, but has a large portion toned with deep gold to blue on the lower right side. A rarity in this grade as so few have pristine surfaces, and a good strike. An impressive example for the specialist.
Estimated Value $4,500-UP.

1921-D Mercury Dime. PCGS graded MS-64 Full Bands. This is a really beautiful coin for the grade, Liberty's face is pristine and the only tiny mark we found with our 10X glass is located on the back of Liberty's wing along the feathers. Glowing luster and lightly toned with delicate hues of gold and red around the periphery. A rare date this nice, and certain to find many eager buyers whenever it's offered.

1921-D Mercury Dime. PCGS graded AU-58 Premium Quality. Dealers and collectors, check this one out. The strike is sharp, with full bands at the central reverse and the surfaces are frankly, outstanding. The wear, if any, is limited to the extreme high points of the design, and the fields and cheek are mint fresh and free of contact or wear. We reasonably suspect that this one will bring a premium for its outstanding quality.

1927 Mercury Dime. NGC graded MS-67. Deeply toned with vibrant shades of green and gold on the obverse, tawny gold on the reverse with a large splash of bright red in the right field. A toning wonder, as well as a pristine gem. This is tied for the finest graded by either NGC or PCGS, but most of the others are full bands (what few there are). We note the bands on this coin are not quite full, but close. Buy it for the toning and surfaces, you won't be disappointed.
